India’s daily Covid situation in 5 charts | India News

NEW DELHI: The latest wave of Covid infections in India is showing a mixed trend- some hotspots like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata have now seen a dip in new cases for the third day in a row.
However cases are on a steep upward trajectory in Karnataka and Kerala.
Here is India’s Covid situation explained in 5 charts:
India added 288 more Omicron cases to its tally from Friday, taking the total to 5753. The variant first detected in South Africa is suspected behind the latest surge in India and across the world.

Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata all registered fewer new cases compared to Thursday and Friday. However the graph for Bengaluru has headed steeply north, while Chennai too saw a marginal increase in daily cases.

Among the states, Karnataka showed a sharp rise, with cases jumping from 28,723 on Friday to 32,793 on Saturday. The graph is on an upclimb in Tamil Nadu and Kerala too. However barring the three southern states, the other hotspots like Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal and Delhi have seen a decline in numbers.

Nationally though, the number of daily cases continue to rise. Some experts are of the opinion that certain regions of the country are already past the peak of the current wave of infections, and will witness a gradual decline.

Another 402 deaths in the past 24 hours have taken India’s cumulative toll due to Covid-19 to 485,752.
