Girl, 7, killed trying to cross Highway 101 in Monterey County
A young girl apparently trying to cross lanes of traffic on Highway 101 was killed Friday night, California Highway Patrol officers said.
The deadly incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m., when CHP received reports of a pedestrian struck by multiple vehicles on Highway 101 near the Monterey County town of Prunedale. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the girl was already deceased. It appeared she had tried to walk through the southbound lanes toward the center median. It’s not clear why the girl was on the roadway or how she got there, although that stretch of 101 is near a gas station and several businesses.
